My Son

May we all have the wisdom to listen to Solomon and the advice he gave to his son.

Wednesday Bible Blurb “My Son” 8 28 2024

Blessed with wisdom and understanding, Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel left many proverbs directed toward his sons. Solomon, with the wisdom bestowed upon him by God has passed down to us, understanding. Listen to his words…

“My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother:” (Prov. 1:8 [NKJV]).

“My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.” (Pro. 1:10).

“My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice to understanding; If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.” (Pro. 2:1-5).

“My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands…” (Pro. 3:1).

“My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor detest His correction For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.” (Pro. 3:11-12).

“My son, let them not depart from your eyes- Keep sound wisdom and discretion;” (Pro. 3:21).

“Hear, my children, the instruction of a father And give attention to know understanding; For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law.” (Pro. 4:1-2).

“My son, give attention to my words; Incline our ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.” (Pro. 4:20-22).

“My son, pay attention to my wisdom; Lend your ear to my understanding, that you may preserve discretion, and your lips may keep knowledge.” (Pro. 5:1-2).

“My son, if you become surety for your friend, …Go and humble yourself; Plead with you friend.” (Pro. 6:1a;3b).

“My son, keep your father’s command, and do not forsake the law of your mother.” (Pro. 6:20).

“My son, keep my words, and treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and live, and my law as the apple of your eye.” (Pro. 7:1-2).

The apostle John carries on the wisdom of Solomon for us today. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God;” (I John 3:1a [KJV]). We are all the sons and daughters of God. The wise words of Solomon are meant for all of us. Proverbs chapters 1-7 are directed toward, “My son” (All of us). Starting in chapter 8, Solomon directs his words to “wisdom.”  May we all have the wisdom to listen to Solomon and the advice he gave to his son.
