The Shepherd Comes To Us

Wednesday Bible Blurb The Shepherd Comes to us  11 12 2025

Each of us has a morning routine. One of mine is to rise early and go outside and take a walk with my three-pet sheep. Walking around my yard with three sheep following close behind while viewing the morning sun hit the snow-capped Bitterroot Mountains of Montana is a joy of mine. When the morning sun hits the Bitterroot Mountains and they begin to glow in the bright colors of a sunrise I am filled with the daily hope of light and life. My pets, Manna, Olive and Deena seem to look forward to their shepherd stepping outside and taking them on their walk. They know hidden my pockets are little sheep treats which they love. Sometimes they try to get into my coat pocket with their long noses to snatch a treat. They know the shepherd takes his time to come to them. They look forward to the return of their shepherd every day.

Do we look forward to the return of our Shepherd every day? Are we longing for the treats (Eternal life in God’s family) He will be bringing with Him? God sent His Son to show us His way of life and to help us learn to follow Him.

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” (Isa. 9: 6-7 [NKJV]). God told us in advance that He would send our Shepherd.

Jesus is our Shepherd. He comes to us. In our lowly human lives, we try to go to Him but in the end, it is He who has come to us. I make the effort to go outside and walk with my sheep. I talk to them and give them treats. They love it when I scratch them behind their ears and give them treats. It gives me great pleasure to go be with my sheep and walk with them in the beauty of a lovely Montana morning. It gives Jesus pleasure to come to us.

Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” (John 10:11-16). I have hired folks to watch over my sheep while I am out of town. One time I returned to find the water trough completely empty and there was no food in their feeding buckets. Sometime the “hireling” does not do a good job. Jesus on the other hand is willing to lay down His life for us, His sheep. He is truly the “good shepherd”, and He takes the time and effort to come to us. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10). He will come bearing treats in His proverbial pockets for us to have life more abundantly forever more with our Shepherd.

We, His sheep have been waiting for 2,000 years for Him to come again. Rest assured He will return as the Shepherd King who wants to walk and talk to His sheep. “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11). He will return to His sheep.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.” (I Thes. 4:16). He is coming to us, His sheep.

“Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Rev. 11:15). He is coming to us, His sheep.

“Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” (Rev. 19:11-16).

He is coming to us, His sheep.

“’And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.’ 14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.”

Our Shepherd is coming to us, His sheep with all His glory and splendor. Our Shepherd will conquer the evil of this world. Our Shepherd will be with us forever. Our Shepherd gave His life for us so that we may live with Him. Our shepherd comes to us, let us go to Him.
