Abortion

“Thou shalt not kill” (Ex. 20:13 and Deut. 5:17). The Hebrew word translated as “kill” in the KJV is “rasah”, which is better translated as “murder”. The vast majority of Bible translations use the word “murder” instead of kill. The question before us then is simple: is ABORTION murder”? Murder is defined variously as, “the killing of another human being; to kill in a brutal or violent manner; to slay in great numbers; massacre; slaughter, butcher. Massacre indicates a general slaughtering of helpless or unresisting victims.”  By all definitions the taking of unresisting vulnerable innocent life is murder!

When does a human life start? At conception, three months into a pregnancy? At the physical birth and first breathe of a baby? Modern medicine is now able to pinpoint the exact moment life begins in a womb. “If one sperm…burrows into the egg, it fertilizes the egg. The egg changes so that no other sperm can get in. At the instant of fertilization, your baby’s genes and sex are set. If the sperm has a Y chromosome, your baby will be a boy.  If it has an X chromosome, the baby will be a girl.”  LIFE BEGINS AT THE VERY MOMENT OF CONCEPTION. https://www.webmd.com/baby/understanding-conception#1.  Abortion ends this new life. God says life starts at conception (Hosea 9:11).

The Bible repeatedly tells us  life is in the womb and even gives the penalty for taking that life. David said, “thou are my God from my mother’s belly” (Pslm. 22:9-10). God protects even from the womb (Pslm. 139:13-14). Jacob formed from the womb (Isa. 44:2). God called the Prophet Isaiah from the womb (Isa. 49:1). God called John the Baptist from the womb (Luke 1:15). When Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist heard the voice of her cousin Mary, who was pregnant with Jesus, John leaped while inside her womb (Luke 1:41, 44).

Life to God is sacred and the killing of an unborn human brings a stiff penalty from God (Ex. 21:22). This verse clearly shows God believes the life in a womb is a living human being- just not yet born. Our study of the Bible shows several instances where “unborn” children were murdered and violently “ripped” out of their mother’s womb (Amos 1:13-15). Evil king Menahem of Israel smote “ripped” up women and God called it EVIL (II Kings 15:16-19). Hazael, future king of Syria was prophesied to “rip up” “women with child” (II Kings 8:12). Hosea prophecies the terrible fate of Samaria as “their women with child shall be ripped up” (Hosea 13:16).” The Bible continually uses the word, “ripped” which in Hebrew is, “baqa”. The word “baqa’ literally means, “to be split, burst open; split open, burst forth; broken through, ripped open, divide to split apart, rent, clave asunder, cutteth out, rent asunder, rip up and tear.” (Strongs #1234). All of these words are used by God to describe the ending of an unborn human life. All are violent and all are based on selfishness. These words from God describe what abortion truly is: Murder.

Murder is a sin and the wages of sin are death (Rom. 6:23a). What would this world be if Elizabeth had aborted John (the Baptist) because she was pregnant at a very old age and worried about Down’s syndrome? What if Sarah had aborted Isaac because she was past the age of child bearing? What if the unwed mother to be Mary had aborted Jesus, the Son of God because she was poor and unable to take care of the baby herself? The only answer is we would all be lost to Satan as we would have no savior in Jesus Christ.  Jesus tells us to “love our neighbor” (Matt. 5:43a). How is the killing of an unborn baby love? Jesus tells us that even contemplating about murder is a sin (Matt. 5:21-22). How much more sinful is it to murder an innocent unborn child?

Murder is a sin (Ex. 20:13; Deut. 5:17; Matt. 5:21-22; Mark 10:19). Sin bears the penalty of death (Rom. 6:23a). By taking the life of an unborn innocent human baby one is actually incurring the death penalty from God onto oneself because it is a sin to murder (abort) at child!

Like all sins, abortion should be repented of and God will forgive.  See the www.cscog7.org one page Biblical study called, “Guilt, Forgive and Forget”. God forgives and forgets all of our sins, both large and small when we truly repent and ask Him.

“O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever!” (Deut. 529).
