The Walk

Peter walked on the waters of the Sea of Galilee until his faith sank.

Wednesday Bible Blurb “The Walk” 4 30 2025

Hiking in Montana is as beautiful as it gets. Our little group called the Thursday Trail Thumpers (TTT) love to get outside and walk in the wilderness mountains of Western Montana. Spring time with snowcapped peaks and swift flowing streams with the gurgling of the water and the sound of hawks and eagles screaming overhead are a part of our walk together. There is just something about getting outside and walking, either alone or with friends, that can calm us down and create a vivid image of our creator in our minds. Walking with God is a beautiful thing to do.

How well are we walking with God in our daily life? Adam and Eve happily walked together with God in the Garden of Eden until iniquity was found in them. The result of their sin was they were cast out of the garden and no longer walked with God. We see many examples of humans walking with God throughout the entire Bible.

Enoch waked with God for 300 years. Wow, talk about a long walk! Have we thought of the difference between Adam, Eve and Enoch? Adam and Eve were removed from walking with God for sin. Enoch could not have walked and talked with God for all those yeas if he were in a state of sinful rebellion. For us to continue our walk with God we must not be in a state of sinful rebellion. We know sin is the transgression of the law (I John 3:4 [KJV]).

Abraham walked with God, ate meals with God, bargained with God and followed his lead, albeit in an imperfect way. Yet, his FAITH is passed down for our understanding. (Gal.3:6-9). He walked in the ways of God and was a friend of God. “And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.” (James 2:23 [NKJV]). Our faith follows in the footsteps of Abraham.

Moses walked with God for 40 years through the wilderness of Sinai. God called him to walk up the mountain to receive the commandments of God (Ex. 24:12-13). What a privilege it is to walk with God. Moses made mistakes and was not allowed to enter the physical promised land. Yet, God had mercy on him and through his faith, Moses will be a part of the glorious Kingdom of God.

For three and a half years the 12 disciples walked with Jesus around Judea. Daily they were with God on earth learning and following until trouble came. One turned away from his faith and gave Jesus up to be crucified. Judas became frightened from his daily life and turned back to his prior ways of not walking with God. Do we walk back to our prior ways when life gets tough? Do we lose our faith when the trials and temptations of our daily life hit us hard?

It’s all about faith in Jesus even in the toughest of times. We walk with God by obedience and not turning back (See Lots wife as a pillar of salt) when trials come upon us. When the storm comes and the boat is about to sink, we must wait for Jesus to walk on the water and calm our storm. It is all about faith and never turning back. God will never allow us a trial we cannot handle, and He will aways give us a way out (I Cor. 10:13) but we must remain faithful. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Heb. 11:1 [NKJV]). Our walk of faith is often blind but our faith in Jesus gives us the hope and the ability to wait out the storm until relief comes.

God warned ancient Israel to walk in His ways or their blessings would stop. “Then, if you walk contrary to Me, and are not willing to obey Me, I will bring on you seven times more plagues, according to your sins.” (Lev. 26:21). We can only walk with God in our obedience. When our trials and tribulations come, if we turn back our ending will be worse than the beginning.

Peter walked with Jesus for three and a half years. Peter walked on the waters of the Sea of Galilee until his faith sank. On the night Jesus was taken, Peter forsook Jesus, ran away and denied Jesus three times. (Luke 22:34;54-62). Peter temporarily lost his faith but he turned back. Then the rooster crowed, Jesus looked into the eyes of Peter and one of the greatest acts of repentance happens. Peter wept bitterly. No matter how bad we believe our life is, no matter how terrible the trials and tribulations of our life we cannot walk back from Jesus. Just 50 days later, Peter, the rock preached the greatest most powerful sermon of the New Testament, and it became known as the “apostles’ doctrine.” (Acts 2:42). Has our spiritual rooster crowed for us to turn back and walk with God?

Never turn your back on God as He is watching us. “Your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’ Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left…” (Isa. 30:21). Walk with God and when we fail as our biblical heroes of the past did, repent, turn back, walk with God. Peter temporarily lost his faith and with his repentance he got his faith back and went on to lead the first century Church of God. We can never think our walk is over as God loves us and is always willing to restore us to His grace as we walk in His faithful obedience. Walk with God!
