Wednesday Bible Blub: “The Fawn” 6/26/2024
It was a mournful cry for help. The frightened sounds emanating from the little fawn in the field were gut wrenching and breaking my heart. The little baby was trapped on the inside of the fence and the mommy deer and its twin sibling walked off across a field with out it. In my mind I could see the pain of the little fawn as it begged for its mother to return and take it with her. The screams of desperation sounded from the field for a couple of hours until the little baby deer laid down to simply wait for its mother to return.
Have we ever sent our own gut-wrenching prayer to God for help? “Please God, come to me I need you so much.” Our screams of desperation reverberate from our hearts for hours until we lay down from exhaustion and wait for Jesus to return. As I sat in my office working, I could hear the cries for mercy from the little baby deer and I could do nothing about it. It was heart breaking. Jesus hears our cries for mercy too. “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Heb. 4:15 [NKJV]). He hears our cries and understands our pains of this life.
Stephen, the deacon gave the gospel sermon of his life. He preached Jesus and His coming kingdom right up until he was murdered. He was not alone as the rocks hit him and slashed the tender flesh of his fleeting life. His pain and cries for mercy were not to a silent uncaring God. As he “gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and said, ‘Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!’’ (Acts 7:55-56). Jesus was not casually sitting and watching the murder of Stephen, Jesus STOOD UP, full of care and showed Himself to Stephen. Like Stephen, we are not alone as we cry for help and for God’s mercy in our daily lives.
Jesus, the good Shepherd knows of the wolves of trouble in our life. He is fully aware of the evil of this world and how we are in need of Him. We are not alone like the little fawn was. We cry out, “Jesus have mercy on me, hear my prayer and my supplications.” Jesus, the good Shepherd simply tells us, “I know My sheep, and am known by My own.” (John 10:14”. We are not alone; we are watched over by our wonderful guiding shepherd.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin; And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Matt. 10:29-31). God knows our needs; He hears our mournful cries for help and salvation.
Deer have their babies in June each year here in Montana. Everyday my apple and cherry orchard have deer grazing and their babies are laying in the tall grass in the safety of my yard. I am a shepherd of sheep and I have created a safe place for the wild mule deer to come and rest. (See Isaiah 11:6). We had twin fawns born to a young mother deer this year under our apple trees. Each day mommy deer will tuck them into some tall grass and go off to browse in the neighboring fields for the day. The little fawns will try to hide from predators and keep silent in the grass. Mommy deer always returns in the evening to nurse and cuddle her new born babies.
The little fawn’s cries for its mother to return tugged at my heart. Stuck on the wrong side of a fence, it gave a sorrowful mournful cry for help as it watched its mother and sibling walk away across the neighbor’s field. Mommy deer always return to take care of their babies. I know this about deer and thus did not worry for the little fawn. We are God’s little fawns who cry for help. Rest assured, like the mommy deer, God hears our prayers and He will return to us and take care of all our needs. He will return as KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS (Rev. 19:16). We are not alone, we are more precious than little baby deer.
