We are introduced to Satan the devil in Gen 3. Satan tells Eve and Adam they shall surely not die if they eat of the forbidden fruit. This is the first lie told to mankind and is still being spread today in the un-Christian doctrine of the immortal soul (See the one page articles on the Immortal Soul, Heaven and Hell). This incident with Satan shows his pattern of lies and deceit which he still spreading to the entire world. Gen. 3:15 shows us the conclusion of the matter in the first prophecy in the Bible, Jesus will be bruised on the cross (death and resurrection) and Satan will be bruised on the head (destroyed). God will eventually banish and put Satan away where he can do no more harm to mankind.
Lucifer who became Satan the devil is the third chief angel recorded in the Bible. The word “Demon” is found nowhere in the King James Bible as God renamed the fallen angels “devils” (Matt. 12:26-27; Rev. 12:9). Originally Lucifer was one of the three anointed cherubs covering God’s throne but iniquity was found in him and he rebelled against God. Satan wanted to be God with all the power and decision making authority of God (Ezek. 28:13-17 and Isaiah 14:12-14 gives us the details of Lucifer’s fall from grace). He took one third of the angels who sinned (II Pet. 2:4; Jude 1:6; Rev. 12:4,7-9) with him who now became “devils” whom we usually refer to as demons. Note: The angels could only have sinned if God’s laws were already in force even before the creation of mankind. The angels were created before the physical creation (Job 38:7). The goal of Satan is to deceive, destroy and kill all of mankind as he knows God created them to be far superior to the angels. He is the “accuser” of the brethren (Rev. 12:10).
Satan appears as a “roaring lion” (I Pet. 5:8), an angel of light (II Cor. 11:14-15), the deceiver of the whole world (Rev. 12:9), he sows evil (Matt. 13:39), he has all power over the earth and is king of the earth until Jesus Christ returns (Luke 4:5-7, II Cor. 4:4, Eph. 2:2, Job 41:34), they are “seducing spirits” (I Tim. 4:1) but the devil and the demons BELIEVE in God and tremble at His almighty power (James 2:19).
We need not fear Satan nor his devils but we must respect (Be aware of) their power and negative influence over mankind. God has the power and the will and the ability to silence and remove Satan and his devils and to protect us from them (Zech. 3:2; Matt. 4:10-11; Mark 8:33). All we need do is ask God for His supreme power to watch over and protect us from the evil one. We must “resist” the devil (James 4:7) and he will flee from us. We are explicitly told NOT to associate with Satan and his demons or any of those who do associate with them. Witches, warlocks, wiccans etc. are evil to God and must be avoided! We are to avoid all demonic influences (Deut. 1 8:10-12; II Cor. 2:11). Satan and his devils will be cast down to hell (II Pet. 2:4-Greek word for hell used here is “tartaroo” meaning a place of restraint. This is the only time this word is used in the Bible and it is used specifically for the fallen angels) and destroyed (Rev. 12:7-9; Rev. 20:1-3, 10). All power in the universe has been given to Jesus Christ our savior (Matt. 28:18) thus we need not fear Satan and his devils (II Kings 6:16). We must “put on the whole armor of God as we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places “ (Eph.6:11-12). Satan is a liar and he is the father of lies (John 8:44). Jesus Christ is the TRUTH (John 17:17; John 1:1). Jesus is the “way, the truth and the light” (John 14:6). Jesus is the savior of this world and redeemer of the sin Satan brought into this world (Luke 2:11; John 4:42; Acts 5:31; 13:23; Isa. 44:6; 47:4). In the end Satan loses and God wins. We therefore, have nothing to fear.
