Wednesday Bible Blurb God Thinks 4 29 2026
I woke up mumbling to myself about what to write about this morning. Each week I try to write something useful and inspiring for the Wednesday Bible Blurb. Today, nothing in my mind was becoming clear for subject matter. My mind was a blank, (Some of you are not surprised) so I prayed for inspiration and then it hit me like a ton of bricks, inspiration comes from God. In the early days of modern philosophical thinking the Frenchman Rene’ Descartes’ said the very well-known phrase, “I think, therefore I am.” According to his philosophy the very act of thinking proves one’s existence. Nice thought.
I got myself to thinking this morning about inspiration. God thinks, therefore He is. Humans think, therefore they are. Is this philosophical gobbledygook or is spiritually thinking a part of God and His character we have overlooked? Let’s compare how God thinks verses how man thinks. God first, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isa. 55:8-9 [NKJV]. Mankind second, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?” Fundamentally, mankind thinks differently than God thinks.
In the beginning of the history of man God thought about creating the universe, spoke about it and poof, the universe existed (Gen 1-2). He had great thoughts, therefore He did. Then along comes man and woman who thought differently than God. Women to her man, “great looking fruit, want a bite?” Man to woman, “looks good.” (Gen. 3). Our thoughts are not like His thoughts, we have disobeyed Him and the entire world has suffered from not thinking like God thinks. The first two brothers were living their lives working at shepherding and gardening. Cain was not thinking in a godly manner and killed his brother Abel. (Gen. 4). Mankind has been following the example of Cain for the last 6,000 years. We humans are not thinking like God thinks.
Sin began to reign in the world, and God washed mankind’s poor thinking away in the great flood of Noah. About 2,500 years after creation God got to thinking it was time for Him to continue His plan for the salvation of the world. God had previously thought this out and He has a plan for all of us. Moses, like Able was a shepherd at the time God called to him while he was tending his flock. How interesting that a bush burned yet the bush did not burn up. God spoke to Moses and Moses said, “Here I am.” (Ex. 3:4). Moses and God were both able to think. When Moses questioned God about what to call Him, God said, “I AM WHO I AM.” (Ex. 3:14). Both man and God exist as both man and God think. We should be thinking like God thinks.
How do we think like God thinks? Job had some down time on his hands to consider this question. “But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.” (Job 32:8). It is our thinking loving God who gives mankind understanding. Are we willing to accept His gift of righteous thought and thinking? Fortunately for us God will help us think like Him by the gift of His holy spirit. “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38). God is gifting to mankind His way of thinking and giving us a helper to guide us in His thoughts. How wonderful of our thinking God to help us mere mortals to think and act like Him!
Paul gave us a counter measure to the idea of a desperate and deceitful heart in mankind by giving us something to pray for. Thinking like God is a good thing to pray about, philosophically speaking. Think about this from Paul, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 2:5). Now that is great thinking! Having the mind of God in us, being led by and inspired by His holy spirit will guide us to be like Him. Thinking like God thinks is what He intended for mankind all along. Unfortunately, mankind has a deceitful and wicked heart. With God’s help and with His mind in our mind, we can be like and think like God.
God thinks, therefore He is. Let us think like God and therefore we will be…like God.
