God is Faithful

As we sit at the end our driveway of trials waiting on our loving God, remember He is faithful to return and to love us for all eternity. He cannot lie.

Wednesday Bible Blurb: God is Faithful 3 20 2024

Many years ago, while I was at work I received a picture from my wife of our little corgi pup named Lucy sitting at the end of our driveway waiting for me to come home. Lucy would sit at the gate and wait for her human daddy to come home. Poor little girl, she had so much faith in my daily return. In her little corgi heart, she knew I would return to her at the end of the day. Lucy had faith in me as she sat waiting for my return, not knowing how much it hurt me to know she just sat there waiting, hoping for her human daddy to come back. Her little puppy faith of my eventual return is an example of how we wait for Jesus with full faith and assurance of His return.

Faith goes both ways between us and God. We are taught, and rightfully so to have faith in God. We are saved from certain death by God’s loving grace by faith (Eph. 2:8). We are to be faithful to God in all of our daily lives. But there is more to the story! God is faithful to us! Have we ever considered how faithful God is to us? Without God keeping His word we would all be condemned to eventual permanent death. It is our faith in Him and in His loving grace that we will be saved. If God were an unfaithful liar, we would all be doomed for eternal death. God cannot lie, as Moses points out, “God is not a man, that He should lie… (Num. 23:19a [NKJV]). God is true and honest and He keeps His word.

All humanity goes through trials and difficult times. We only have one savior and are so very blessed to know God cannot lie and He is completely faithful to keep His promise of salvation to all His called out chosen ones. In our days of trials and tribulations we know God will take care of us. Paul gives us such great hope and comfort in our times of distress, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (I Cor. 10:13). Do we truly realize God is faithful to us? We are to be faithful to Him for our salvation but unless He reciprocates and is faithful to us, all is lost. God is not a liar; He is faithful to us.

God is faithful in that He has promised us eternal life in His kingdom. God is faithful in that we will see our loved ones again. God is faithful in that He will return. God is faithful in that He will forgive our sins and accept us into His family. God is faithful in that His kingdom will reign. God is faithful in all things to us, His children. All of us have sinned and will sin (Rom. 3:23), we all come up short. Yet, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9). As we sit at the end our driveway of trials waiting on our loving God, remember He is faithful to return and to love us for all eternity. He cannot lie.

            “This is a faithful saying:

For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. If we endure, we shall also reign      with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us. If we are faithless, He remains faithful:            He cannot deny Himself.” (II Tim. 2 11-13).

In the late afternoon when I would return from work, I was greeted by a little corgi named Lucy. She would come running to my car, jump on my lap and lick my face and wag her little corgi stub of a tail. Her faithfulness had paid off, her human daddy had come home.

For several years towards the end of her life, Lucy became unhealthy with doggy meningitis of the brain. Slowly, my wonderful little pup got weaker and weaker. One day, late on a sunny afternoon she laid down on the grass in the front yard. I knew her time was up and she would not rise again. I laid down on the grass next to her and for a very long time I petted her and talked to her, trying my best to comfort her in her time of trial. As the sun began to set, I carried Lucy pup into our home and laid her down on the carpet. I got myself a blanket and my pillow and spent the night with my little Lucy pup. I petted her, talked to her and faithfully comforted her as best I could. It hurts to this day.

God is faithful to us. When we need Him most, He will be with us. As the sun begins to set on our lives all we need know is this: “God is faithful.”

Pictured is Lucy sitting at our gate waiting for me to return.
