Please read the one page article “God’s Festivals: An Historical Perspective” for an introduction to the subject of God’s Holy Days.
Leviticus 23: 23-25 and Numbers 29:1-6. The Feast of Trumpets is observed on the 1st day of the seventh month and is a holy convocation. No work is to be done on this day of holy day of God’s. The Feast of Trumpets is celebrated every year as a reminder of the last trumpet blast of Revelation 11:15 signaling the return of Jesus Christ to earth. The trumpet sounds and Jesus returns to earth. Trumpet blasts are a signal of “royalty”, “war” and major “announcements”. The last trump announces the return of Christ and the ushering in of the beginning of the Kingdom of God. It is a time of war and destruction as Jesus begins to forcibly rid the world of sin.
Joel 2:1-11 tells us what is going to happen when Jesus returns. War and rumors of war. After His return to the Mount of Olives, Jesus begins to use His great power to purge the earth of the sin that abounds.
Matthew 24: 24-30 shows us what it will be like on earth as Jesus returns. Verse 30 shows the time frame, the return of Christ and is almost an exact quote of Joel 2:30-33. The Feast of Trumpets and the Day of the Lord seem to happen at the same time. Luke 21:25-28 Jesus states when these things happen “redemption draws nigh”. At His glorious return He begins to rid the world of sin and He is going to fight to make it happen. John 5:1, 25-29. The entire chapter takes place on the Feast of Trumpets verses 1, 25-29 make this clear. In verses 25-29 He tells what is going to happen at His return. He chose to teach of His return on the day that symbolizes His return. Zechariah 14: 1-9 prophecies of the distant future return of Jesus to the Mount of Olives on the day of the Lord. He returns with the sound of the trumpet blast to war and He begins the physical process of conquering the world and removing sin from mankind.
The Festival of Trumpets shows the return of Jesus to earth at the last trump, which was kept by both ancient Israel and the early church. It will also be kept in the future as we saw in Zechariah 14. The final 7th trump of Revelation 11:15 is the “announcement” of the coming of “Royalty” and the signal of “war” at His return and is the ultimate fulfillment of the Festival of Trumpets.
