Personal Spiritual Review

Have we ever conducted a Personal Spiritual Review (P.S.R.) on ourselves?

Wednesday Bible Blurb Personal Spiritual Review 4 17 2024

The phone call came into my insurance office from a client with question. “Hey, Mike, I forgot to cancel the old Buick three years ago. How far back can we go to remove the vehicle?” The simple legal answer was 15 days. The client had not looked at her insurance renewals in over three years (Six renewal cycles). She had forgotten to call me to remove the vehicle and paid the price for forgetting to check in with the agent. There was nothing I could do; the damage was done.

My client needed to have a Personal Insurance Review (P.I.R). Each year I try to contact my clients or have them contact me to go over their personal family insurance policies. Insurance is simply about bad things happening to good people. It is my goal as an insurance agent to take care of folks so the bad things of life do not overwhelm them. Even a brief yearly review can save many unintended situations from happening. Have you sold an auto? Did a child become a licensed driver? Have you changed jobs? Do you need advice with your retirement plans? Some simple questions in a yearly P.I.R. can stir conversation and then updates and corrections can be made to insure adequate coverages.

Have we ever conducted a Personal Spiritual Review (P.S.R.) on ourselves? Have we prayed to our God in heaven and reviewed our spiritual life with Him? Paul tells us to, “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? Unless indeed you are disqualified.” (II Cor. 13:5 [NKJV]). We see in this verse all the elements of a P.I.R. Examine our spiritual policy with God. Are we up to date with His will? Have there been any changes in our life which we should take to God for a review? Are we following Him in righteousness? Where do we need spiritual corrections? We should conduct a P.S.R. on ourselves with God.

Concerning the Passover season Paul told the Corinthians, “But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgement to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.” (I Cor. 11:28-29). We do not have to wait for a year to do our own P.S.R, we can and should do this every day as we pray and study. Check in with our Savior and have a conversation with Him! Ask the questions and listen to His advice. Jesus realizes bad things happen to good people and He is there to help us through the tough times. His goal is to take care of us so when the bad things of life happen, we are not overwhelmed.

My client realized she could do nothing about her vehicle except to have me remove it from her policy. All was forgiven and we moved on and did a P.I.R.  When we spend our daily time with God in prayer, conduct a P.S.R. with Him. God will remove the old vehicles of sin in our life and we can go forward with Him to His eternal reward.
